My husband has accepted a job in Tacoma. We used to live in Puget Sound in the 1990s and LOVED Vashon. We are dying for a way to make it work.

He will have a pager, its ok for it to take him an hour to get to Tacoma but he has to be able to get there, even at 3am (I noticed the Ruston ferry doesnt run 24 hours).

We are thinking of buying a boat and some property on the south part of the island with the idea of leaving a vehicle in Tacoma (paying for a spot) near the Ruston ferry. That way if the ferry isnt running he can take our personal boat across.

Is this insane? Does anyone on the island do this? Just looking for random advice from people who live there.
